Buffalo Sabres 40th Anniversary Exhibit

To commemorate their 40th year in the National Hockey League, the Buffalo Sabres asked the Buffalo Hockey Experience + Museum to display a portion of its collection in HSBC Arena. As the agency of record for BHE+M, OtherWisz Creative was the perfect assist to design the exhibit, which highlights some of the most memorable moments in Buffalo hockey history.

We designed the installation on the theme of shared experiences. Flanking the 2nd floor atrium, the exhibit’s location allowed us to focus on how fans share hockey history, often in a social context. The storyline was developed with choice pieces of memorabilia from the BHE+M collection, such as a rare Tim Horton home jersey from 1974, as well as items from the legendary Soviet Series game against the Russians in 1976.

Aside from designing, installing, and writing the vignettes for the display cases, we have curated the accompanying wall cases, presenting some of the trophies awarded over the past 40 years. Chronologically presenting some of the events and people who shaped the last 40 years of Buffalo hockey with facts and memorabilia offers opportunities for fans to say, ‘I was there!’ and ‘Remember that?’, creating a memorable experience for casual and dedicated hockey fans alike.
